More than 7.2 million votes were cast to decide the team of the year, with users deciding on their preferred formation from a shortlist of 40 players. Eight players from La Liga have been selected - five from Barcelona and three from Real Madrid.

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba makes the team for the first time after reaching the Champions league final with Juventus. Colombian James Rodriguez also made it to UEFA team of the year for the first time in his career.
